I wish every cancer patient had the opportunity to be healed by Tony Oscar. Backstory: To my shock, after a preventative double mastectomy in 2017 (BRCA2 positive), I found myself fighting my first cancer, breast cancer, in 2023. Tony's expertise has been crucial to enduring the process of escaping the grip of cancer. I learned from a kindly radiation tech that it's not unusual to experience crippling pain during chemo, pre and post surgery, and during radiation. I have encouraged my radiation oncologist to seek help for his patients from Tony. I want other cancer patients to benefit from this life-changing relief. Initially, I tried to treat the ongoing muscular pain in my torso - especially in the shoulder and neck areas - with physical therapy, both in water and on land. These were not effective choices for me. Pain pills just put me to sleep - when I woke up the crippling pain was still there. Post surgery, I was barely able to walk across the room without being immobilized by sharp pains in my shoulders neck, arms, wrists and hands. I thought of Tony because he had given me two therapeutic massages at some of my lowest points during chemotherapy, while I was being infused with "red devil" (Yes, what nurses actually called it!). Tony diagnosed which muscles groups were affecting me the most by observing me (try to) walk toward him. The healing began instantly because Tony is completely in tune with each muscle group. He can explain what those muscle groups are doing to affect my mobility. Most importantly, I'm starting to be able to function much closer to "normally". Each week I get better, and the pain lessens. I sincerely wish that everybody had the opportunity to experience the healing that Tony is so adept at providing. As important, his spirit is kind, respectful, endlessly generous. I'm so fortunate that I found Tony Oscar as my healer.

I wasn't quite in the place yesterday to get wordy, but I wanted to come back and share a few things as to why I thought Tony's massage was so great yesterday. 1.) ✅CONNECTION - When reaching for a blanket, pillow, some kind of weighty heated device, or a bit more lube, he kept connection with the body so as not to disrupt the flow. 2.) ✅ANATOMICAL KNOWLEDGE - Why even put your hands on someone therapeutically if you don't know where things begin and end, and that there are layers to the tissue, etc etc. I felt entirely safe that he was competent here. 3.) ✅BREATH - if the therapist isn't slowed down enough to concentrate on their own breathing, I'm not sure they are at all present with me. 4.) ✅CONFIDENT PRESSURE - I never once had to ask him to adjust, as he was listening to the body. Massage isn't a one-sided therapist performance. It is collaborative, and we even talked about that! I think the two greatest things to bring into a massage as the recipient is awareness of what's going on in your own body during the session, and your voice (to ask for adjustments and speak up if something feels off or you need something else). 5.)✅TACTICAL INTUITION (I may have just made that term up) - He was working on a certain area, and I knew he was right on and I felt like I wanted him to go up and over the attachment and pull down to create some space there. I didn't ask, I was waiting to see if he would naturally go there, and he did. That is listening. I don't think it is like a psychic beaming necessarily (but maybe it is if you consider our thoughts are not centrally located in the head, but within all our cells), but moreso being in tune with the body that shows up on the table and everything the musculature presents. I also came in with an area of concern in my back that has felt like needed to be suctioned out, as it felt suctioned in 🤷🏻‍♀️. I didn't articulate this, in fact I had forgotten, but he ended up using a cupping modality there, working with the fascia! Yes, Tony!! 😂 I can't tell you how much I recommend him. If you've ever had a crappy massage (oh, I have!), it is such a relief to find yourself on the table of one who is capable, knowledgeable, flexible in approach, and responsive. Go get a massage!!! ♥️

"Having been a professional athlete who is dedicated to working out and physical activity, Tony has managed to keep my body in tip top condition for over seven (7) years. My wife, Lindsey, is a personal trainer with several challenging skeletal and muscular issues which he has been able to help her work through. His willingness to listen to our complaints, his massage technique and his professional mannerisms all display the highest integrity and morals. Tony offers a high level of expertise, morals, professionalism and compassion in his field.

We have been blessed enough to have Tony participate and work with our foundation, The Pollack Family Foundation, offering massage services to our members who have participated in various fund raising events. Your own personal health, athlete's heath and/or employee's health and well-being will certainly be improved by utilizing Tony's services."

McGee Moody - University of South Carolina Head Coach Men's and Women's Swimming - 57 total All-America performances, 39 total All-SEC performers, 12 First Team All-SEC performers

"I have known Tony for over 5 years and he is a valued member of our staff and a good friend. He began working with the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Team at The University of South Carolina in 2013 and has always done an excellent job.
Tony has a big heart and cares deeply about the success of our athletes. Our athletes love Tony and consider him a member of our team. He brings a wealth of knowledge to our program and has helped changed our thinking regarding the recovery for our athletes. He works tirelessly, often working 18-hour days when we are away at meets on the road. He would work on athletes all day and into the night and then insist on working on the coaches to make sure they are prepared for the next day.
Above all, Tony has become a good friend. I can always count on Tony to listen and help me work through any issues or problems when we are on the road. He is one of the most loyal people I have ever met. He truly appreciates the opportunity to work with our team and I never take for granted the impact he has on our program. Whether working on sore and tight muscles or just listening to our athletes after a race or when they are struggling with a bad day, I know Tony will respond in a way that will help them be better as an athlete and grow as a person.
His happiness and joy for life is infectious and we love having Tony as a part of the Gamecock Swimming and Diving Program."

Mark Bernadino - Associate Head Coach for the North Carolina State University - 27 ACC Championships, 510 career victories rank fifth all-time in NCAA swimming, head coach of the USA World University Games team in 2009 and 2011, as well as assistant coach of the USA Pan-American Games team in 2011

"I have known Tony for the better part of 14 years and he has become one of my closest friends. I first employed Tony to be a sports massage therapist for my University of Virginia Women’s and Men’s Swim Teams in the fall of 2004, and he continues to be my team massage therapist through two job changes. Tony came highly recommended to me from the Atlanta School of Massage and he is thoroughly impressive both as a massage therapist and as an amazing human being. He immediately connected with both our staff and athletes. His patient and relaxing demeanor and his positive outlook on life, athletics and career allowed him to become an invaluable part of our team for many years. Tony took to the sport of swimming, going so far as to where he has given lectures to other university teams and staffs on the benefits of massage therapy in swimming and why and how it works. He is so good at his craft, that he became the massage therapist to multiple collegiate teams, including some of the greatest NCAA men’s tennis teams of the past decade. I know his work with these teams and athlete is as meticulous as his work with the swim teams I have coached. Simply put, he is the best Massage Therapist I have worked with in my 42 year coaching career."

"Tony Oscar worked 7 years as massage therapist for UVA Men’s Tennis and has been a valuable component for our program’s success.  Along with his charismatic and loving personality, Tony has a unique ability to understand and cater to the individual’s physical needs in order to properly prepare our athletes for competition; and more importantly, keep them healthy throughout the season.  Throughout his 7 years, the number of injuries that our players have had has decreased dramatically, enabling the team to consistently perform at the highest level and achieve tremendous success.  He was also an instrumental part of our historic 2013 season which resulted in the program’s first ever NCAA Championship and undefeated record.  Tony exhibits the human traits and attributes necessary to succeed at any level or form of massage therapy and was an important factor in our success."

Matthew McLean - Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer.  A member of several winning U.S. teams in freestyle relay events, including the historic United States Olympic team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

He knows what to do before, after, and during competitions and always has me ready to get the job done. He has a wealth of knowledge and willingness to listen that really set him apart from the competition."

"I worked closely with Tony during my four years as the associate head men's tennis coach for the University of Virginia (2010-2014). Tony played a major role in preparing our athletes physically and mentally for the most important events of the year, namely the ACC and NCAA Team Championships.  He not only has a God given gift to heal and soothe the body with his hands but his love, compassion and selflessness made him an integral part of our team chemistry.  I would recommend Tony to anyone that is not only look for a world-class massage therapist but a true friend."

Kasey Gay - Videographer:

Tony’s been a godsend to me.  I was a power lifter cross fitter, etc earlier in life and it finally all caught up with me. I've been trying to untangle back pain and postural issues for 5 years with yoga and occasional trips to see a physical therapist—all with mixed results.
I booked a few sessions with Tony and the results have been nothing short of incredible.
As a massage therapist Tony is thorough and knowledgeable.  When we first met, he took a generous amount of time to speak with me and uncover what my symptoms were and explain to me what the likely causes were.
The massage sessions were targeted and intentional.  Tony set to work unlocking muscles in my shoulders and back that I’d never even given thought to, let alone learned how to stretch.
I walked out of my first session feeling amazing, and better still, Tony gave me a list of simple stretches to work on so that I could do my own maintenance at home.
The results have been awesome, and have carried over into my (greatly improved!!!) yoga practice and just day-to-day life.
Tony’s an incredible therapist and teacher. A single session with Tony did more for me than the half dozen physical therapists I've seen in recent years. If you haven’t gone and seen him, you should!

Robert Lewis (veterinarian):

"My name is Robert Lewis, and I am a mixed animal veterinarian, with a clinic in Greensboro, Ga. My wife and I are ultra distance trail runners when we aren't working, and I tend to be terrible at keeping up with my stretching after our training miles.  Tony has been an undeniable asset to my quest to remain pain free and keeping myself injury free as well. Among the list of problems he has helped to alleviate, I would include my lower back, hips, knees and calves.  Also, and most importantly, he helps me maintain a healthy QL, which is essential for finding oneself pain free in the lower back. I had no idea what a QL was, until Tony worked on mine, one session, causing immediate  relief to a tight lower back! Amazing!!!!
Tony is not only an incredible massage therapist, but also just an amazing person! From the moment you meet him, you will find yourself at ease and ready to begin your healing process. My wife and I, both like lots if pressure, and Tony can definitely provide either end of the pressure spectrum for his patients. The only negative thing I could say about Tony, is that he doesn't live near us anymore!! He is a terrific therapist, an even better friend, and will be greatly missed!"

Nancy Lewis (personal trainer):

"I found Tony from another massage therapist who was taking time off from her practice because she was having a baby. Myself and my husband are into ultra trail running and I'm also a personal trainer and teach Bootcamp classes. So I get nagging issues and injuries now and again. Tony has helped me with chronic issue with lower back pain and bursitis in my hip. After seeing Tony I never went to any other massage therapist again. Tony gave my issues special attention he put me on a schedule for massage to get rid of my nagging issues. Now I go to see Tony for maintenance and the occasional injury. He has helped my body to heal itself in a holistic natural way and I am very grateful."

Timi Conley (musician):

"For what I personally need and like, Tony's massage is the best.  I like to be pain free and to be able to move freely, but I have a tendency to get tight and for muscles to spasm.  Tony, better than any other massage therapist I have experienced, gets DEEP into the problem spots and works them out with a rare tenacity and anatomical knowledge.  He has helped me clear chronic crippling pain so that I am like I like- MOVING FREELY and PAIN FREE.  I also like his infectious confidence, warmth and sense of humor... coupled with his wide scope of understanding and sensitivity with people, he's really in the top echelon.  Tony's massages can be a real workout- very physical- but he can also do the easy, relaxing session.  I've experienced both, and highly recommend him."

PK, Athens, GA:

Below is the transcript (and it's copy) of a letter that was left at the front desk of a massage clinic in Athens, GA. It was a grateful surprise to find it posted on the bulletin board:
To whom it may concern,
I first came to _____ in Dec 2013 and had a massage with ______. It was a pleasurable experience, but unfortunately it did not leave a long lasting impression on me. I returned today to take advantage of your anniversary special, and was assigned Tony as my therapist. Three words: HE IS AMAZING! I have never felt more welcome, relaxed and comfortable - especially given that I was pretty much naked! Although I have only known him for an hour & change, I feel like Tony is a long lost friend. There are very few people in this world that can be so warm and inviting upon first meeting them, especially in an environment where someone can feel vulnerable/exposed. I don't know what magic touch he has in his hands, his personality and even his heart - but it works! I look forward to returning very soon and meeting Tony again. He is a treasure!
Thank you so much,
PK

Stacey Bourgeois (Senior Public Health Advisor at CDC):

"My son, Jarrod, was experiencing walking difficulties due to extremely tight muscles, which was originally diagnosed as cerebral palsy.  Despite his best efforts in physical and aquatic therapy, his little leg muscles were still too tight to support him in walking.  His bones were also growing at a faster rate than his muscles.  As a result, Jarrod’s walking deteriorated, he had to be in a wheelchair full-time, and he developed scoliosis.  I was referred to Tony Oscar 10 years ago when Jarrod was 10 years old.  Although Jarrod often fought with “Mr. Tony” during his weekly neuromuscular massage sessions, Tony was able to get Jarrod back to walking again. image

Unfortunately, three years later, Jarrod developed pneumonia and went into respiratory arrest while in the emergency room at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.  He was placed on a ventilator and spent the next nine months in the hospital during which time he was given a tracheotomy to assist with his breathing and went through spinal fusion surgery to correct the scoliosis.  Although, Tony was not able to provide Jarrod with massage therapy in the hospital, he frequently called to check on Jarrod and often visited him in the hospital.  When Jarrod finally came home, he was still on a ventilator with a trachea tube and required 24-hour nursing.  Tony immediately began his weekly sessions with Jarrod again, this time to prevent muscular atrophy.  Jarrod was always thrilled to see “Mr. Tony”, even though he still fought with him; and they had developed a beautiful bond over the years.  These sessions went on for the next three years; until, my dear, sweet Jarrod passed away from unknown causes.  Tony took Jarrod’s loss almost as hard as I did.

I have been lucky enough to get a few massage sessions in from time-to-time and understood better why Jarrod fought so much with “Mr. Tony”…his massages were like a workout at the gym, but I felt fantastic afterwards!  I also needed Tony’s magic hands after a back injury a couple of years ago, and he was very instrumental in my recovery.  Tony has truly been a blessing in my and Jarrod’s lives!"
